Become Self Reliant And Prepared

When it comes to a disaster, your best bet to survival is to be prepared. The more prepared, the better. You never want to find yourself in a bad situation and then realize that you should have prepared better. Avoid that at all costs and get ready now.

Disaster will not send you a postcard warning you of the date it will show up at your doorstep to take the initiative and the foresight and get ready now.

There are many ways that you can prepare yourself in the event that a disaster strikes. First and foremost, make sure that you have plenty of food and water. You should have a good supply to last for your entire family for at least a year. That is the ideal goal. If you are not there yet, then work on it until you do.

Be sure to also have extra supplies that will be in very high demand and probably next to impossible to get in a disastrous situation. Items such as ammunition, fuel, and first aid supplies. Medicines, and luxury items such as soap, detergent, chocolate, and coffee. You can also use these items to trade for other items that you may need.

Have an emergency plan in place and go over it with your family. Better yet, have regular emergency escape drills so that everyone is on the same page when it is necessary to get out of the house quickly. Establish a safe location to meet and have supplies ready either there or ready to grab on the way out. Make sure that you have a first aid kit and keep it well-stocked. Be sure to also know how to use it.

It may be helpful to read up on survival books and even take a first aid course. Remember, you never know when disaster will strike or what kind of dangerous situation you may be faced with so you need to cover all of your bases.

It is a good idea to get your home disaster ready and prepare it for the type of natural disasters that are common in your area. Try to get yourself as self-reliant as possible as well. If your home does not have a fireplace or wood stove, then you may want to consider getting one installed. That way if you lose power and your heat source, you will not freeze if you live in a cold climate. Solar panels are also a great investment, and so is a gas powered generator.

Establish a garden and get into canning. Not only will this hobby teach you the valuable skill of growing your own food, but you will be able to preserve food and build up your food storage on a budget. The more you save on your food storage, the more you will have toniest in a bigger investment such as getting solar panels.

When it comes to preparation, the organization is your friend. Getting prepared for a disaster, it can tend to be a little overwhelming, especially if you are just starting out. Make your list of things you need to get, things you need to do, and develop an escape plan and safe meeting spot pronto. One of the most important things you can do in an emergency situation is to get you and your family out of danger.

Discuss your plans with your family and assign everyone a task or responsibility. With everyone working together, it will help to lighten the load, and you will be teaching the other members of your family important survival skills as well.

It can also be a good idea to team up with your neighbors and community to make sure that you will have backup and support in the event of a bad situation.

There are many ways to prepare for a disaster. Make sure that you get started right away so that you are not caught off guard. You don't have to spend a lot of time or money all at once, just keep at it and prepare yourself. It can become a really fun hobby and is a great set of skills to develop. Do not let yourself be placed in a vulnerable position.
